Charcot arthropathy or severe destructive arthritis is classified according to site in the foot & extent of healing.

It is difficult to manage because the patient often does not have a lot of pain & the derangement of the anatomy is extreme.

Treatment includes rest, boot or cast immobilisation, or surgery.

The main cause of this neuropathic foot condition in the west is diabetes mellitus.
