Ankle Arthroscopy

ankleath_sm.jpg

This is a commonly performed procedure by Dr O’Sullivan. He does both anterior ankle arthroscopy and posterior ankle arthroscopy mainly for ankle impingement syndromes. These procedures are done under an anaesthetic but as a day case. They see small 1cm long incisions which allow introduction of the endoscope and visualisation of the joint and pathology on a television screen. The ankle arthroscopy allows photographing and demonstration of pathology to patients and is both an effective diagnostic and therapeutic tool.
